The church in America is stuck. Many churches are stuck in ruts of tradition paireded with apathy that prevents any possible notion of change towards reaching those outside of the church. We've become inwardly focused, glorified country clubs that appeal solely to their membership. The Gospel has received the "Waffle House Special" treatment. In essence, we've taken the Gospel and piled things on top of it until it becomes almost unrecognizable.
Aside from this problem is a much bigger one: traditional methods offering an "easy-to-understand" process of salvation have presented a watered down and altogether misleading means of becoming and living as a Christian. At times, it seems all anyone has to do be saved is to say a prayer and join a church - this is not true. If becoming a Christian requires more than a simple prayer and worship attendance, what are those requirements? The answers are found in Jesus' example. Beginning in the month of August, we will study the teachings of Jesus that are most challenging to those who consider following him. In addition to being high standards of fellowship with Christ, they are also some of the most misunderstood teachings of Jesus. In these eight sessions, we will explore what Jesus requires to be His follower. We will investigate some of the most potent and "hard to swallow" statements made by God-in-man, Jesus Christ. The Hard Sayings of Jesus Bible Study will take place for both Adults and Teens at 6PM on Wednesdays, beginning August 9, 2023. Download the Hard Sayings of Jesus weekly devotional guide here: ![]()
